His new single, with its dynamic beat and catchy lyrics is dedicated to the simple joys of rural life.
“I’m gonna’ head out, where there’s no doubt, it’s more wild and free / Where there’s a big sky, more time, fresh air to breathe,”
Drawing inspiration from the wide-open spaces, nights around the campfire, and the freedom of the outback he enjoys with his life at Katherine Outback Experience, Tom has distilled these daily experiences into a melody that strikes a chord with anyone who has ever dreamed of getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life. From driving muddy roads to enjoying the tranquility of a starlit sky, the song paints a vivid picture of life in the wide open spaces outside of the cities – an experience central to Katherine Outback Experience.
Inspiration while on tour
The idea behind ‘Good life’ was sparked by a conversation Tom had with an audience member during one of his recent tour events. A bloke from Melbourne was captivated by Tom’s stories about the authenticity and adventure of station life – the early morning starts, mustering cattle on horseback, the isolation and fun times had out there. His reply to Tom’s stories “That sounds like, what a good life looks like, to me” inspired Tom to write this song.
“I think I’d better buy you a beer as that’s a cracking line for a song. He said no dramas and we shared a couple together!”
Tom started writing the song while still on the road with the Why We Live Out Here Tour. He later engaged the help of the esteemed singer songwriter Matt Scullion and together over a number of zoom calls they transformed it from a “cracking one liner” into a song to catch the hearts and imaginations of listeners. Legendary producer Garth Porter, along with Rod McCormack behind the mixing desk, put the finishing touches to finally give us this new chart contender.
The accompanying music video, shot across three different states while on the road, contrasts the hustle of city life with the serene landscapes of the outback, featuring cameos from fellow artists and tour mates Laura Frank and Nick Morrissey.
“We were on tour travelling through SA and I thought we should use the city of Adelaide in the first verse to paint a picture of traffic, bumper to bumper.”
