Frequently Asked Questions
Although Tom is often at our Katherine Outback Experience shows, we can’t guarantee his presence at every performance. While many guests hope to meet Tom, it’s important to know that the heart of our show is not about one person — it’s about sharing the art of animal training and giving you a genuine insight into life on the land.
Our experienced and passionate team deliver the same high-quality, authentic experience at every show. Katherine Outback Experience is focused on the incredible journey of starting young horses, training the working dogs, and showcasing the connection between people and animals — it’s a very different show to the one we take on the road.
No matter who’s in the arena, you’ll witness something special and walk away with a deeper understanding of the outback way of life.

We require payment at the time of booking unless agreed otherwise with management.
We understand that plans change. We are happy to rebook your horse riding experience or lesson at an alternative time and/ or date, issue a voucher to be used at a later date or provide a full refund for cancellations made at least:
- 24 hours prior to 9am of the day of your booking for the Outback Show
- 72 hours (3 days) prior to 9am of the day of the horse riding session.
For cancellations made outside of the cancellation period, refunds will not be issued unless in extenuating circumstances as deemed by management.
Amendments the Horse Rides made within this timeframe will attract a $35 amendment fee to cover staff costs. We roster our staff around bookings. unfortunately last minute changes make it very difficult to fill that space in our schedules.
Lessons are booked back-to-back. If you are running late, please contact us on 1300818612. although it cannot be guaranteed, we will do our best to fit you in subject to existing bookings. Although we will try to make it work, at times, it is simply not possible to extend your horse riding experience in such cases where you are at fault.
Outback Show
We recommend wearing comfortable clothes. We are an operating farm and despite efforts to clean grandstands prior to every show, they can still get dusty.
Despite the show being undercover, Katherine can at times get quite warm. We are in the tropics so please check the weather forecast.
Walking is limited.
Horse Riding
Closed-in shoes are essential for Horse Rides.
Although not essential, for horse rides we do recommend the following:
- Sun-smart attire including long pants and long sleeved collard are encouraged. despite having an undercover arena, we often ride in the open paddock outdoor arena and bush tracks
- Helmet if available provided it meets national standards. we do have helmets on hand that meet Australian Standards and are cleaned following every lesson. Bike helmets unfortunately do not meet these standards
- Avoid large/ long jewellery that can get caught like rings, long necklaces and dangly earrings for added safety.
Prior to the first lesson/ experience, all participants or legal guardians (if participant is under the age of 18 years) are required to complete the digital risk waiver and medical form.
Forms are only required to be signed prior to the first session unless your medical/ contact circumstances change or management requests otherwise.
No one is allowed to ride without completing the form and refunds/ vouchers will not be issued in a situation where a rider/ guardian refuses to sign the form where this occurs outside of cancellation/ amendment timeframes. forms completed on arrival during your allocated time-slot will not result in a longer horse ride.
We can now offer tailored clinics of up to twelve participants to match your goals and issue points. this may include a 1/2 day, full day, 2-day and 3-days clinics. We do have to work these around our busy tourism schedule and we do need to achieve a minimum number of bookings to make them viable.
Please contact us at [email protected] or on 1300 818 612 to discuss further.
