Are there age restrictions for horse rides?

We offer horse riding for participants as young as 3 years old through to 60+ years of age.

Weight restrictions are limited to around 100kgs. Please advise your weight and height in the comments section when making your booking so we can match you to the best suited horse and maximise the time in which you are riding. This information remains confidential within our team

What do I wear?

Outback Show

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes. We are an operating farm and despite efforts to clean grandstands prior to every show, they can still get dusty.

Despite the show being undercover, Katherine can at times get quite warm. We are in the tropics so please check the weather forecast.

Walking is limited.

Horse Riding

Closed-in shoes are essential for Horse Rides.

Although not essential, for horse rides we do recommend the following:

  • Sun-smart attire including long pants and long sleeved collard are encouraged. despite having an undercover arena, we often ride in the open paddock outdoor arena and bush tracks
  • Helmet if available provided it meets national standards. we do have helmets on hand that meet Australian Standards and are cleaned following every lesson. Bike helmets unfortunately do not meet these standards
  • Avoid large/ long jewellery that can get caught like rings, long necklaces and dangly earrings for added safety.

NT sports voucher

We accept nt sport vouchers for horse riding lessons!

To use your sports voucher to make a booking you need to email your voucher to [email protected]

We will then either:

  • Book you into the preferred date/ time and issue you a gift voucher with a booking code for you to redeem any remaining credit through our online booking system prior to the cut-off date of the voucher; or
  • Issue you a gift voucher with a booking code for the full value of the voucher for you to redeem via our online booking system prior to the cut-off date of the voucher.

Please note, if this is your first lesson, you will need to book a private lesson (as opposed to group lesson). we would also recommend the 1/2 hour lesson for your first lesson.

Do I need to sign forms for horse riding?

Prior to the first lesson/ experience, all participants or legal guardians (if participant is under the age of 18 years) are required to complete the digital risk waiver and medical form.

Forms are only required to be signed prior to the first session unless your medical/ contact circumstances change or management requests otherwise.

No one is allowed to ride without completing the form and refunds/ vouchers will not be issued in a situation where a rider/ guardian refuses to sign the form where this occurs outside of cancellation/ amendment timeframes. forms completed on arrival during your allocated time-slot will not result in a longer horse ride.

  2. Choose between the following options:

Do you offer clinics?

We can now offer tailored clinics of up to twelve participants to match your goals and issue points. this may include a 1/2 day, full day, 2-day and 3-days clinics. we do have to work these around our bust tourism schedule and we do need to achieve a minimum number of bookings to make them viable.

Please contact us at [email protected] or on 1300 818 612 to discuss further.

Why is there a booking fee?

The booking system we use applies a small booking fee that we are unable to absorb into the price. This fee was taken into consideration in pricing the horse riding sessions.

The online booking system allows instant bookings at any time of the day or night without the need to phone or email Katherine Outback Experience staff and await a reply. Unfortunately our small team does not have the current capacity to be in the office full time around meetings, feeding and training animals, running shows and lessons, and raising a young family.

Some of the many benefits of this booking system include:

  • Providing instructors with live manifests so they can match horses to every rider’s ability and ensure they are aware of specific rider needs
  • Prevents double bookings
  • Allows automated lesson reminders
  • Allows instant re-bookings, cancellations and refunds

What is your payment and cancellation policy?

We require payment at the time of booking unless agreed otherwise with management.

We understand that plans change. we are happy to rebook your horse riding experience or lesson at an alternative time and/ or date, issue a voucher to be used at a later date or provide a full refund for cancellations made at least:

  • 24 hours prior to 9am of the day of your booking for the Outback Show
  • 72 hours (3 days) prior to 9am of the day of the horse riding session.

For cancellations made outside of the cancellation period, refunds will not be issued unless in extenuating circumstances as deemed by management.

Amendments the Horse Rides made within this timeframe will attract a $35 amendment fee to cover staff costs. We roster our staff around bookings. unfortunately last minute changes make it very difficult to fill that space in our schedules.

Lessons are booked back-to-back. If you are running late, please contact us on 1300818612. although it cannot be guaranteed, we will do our best to fit you in subject to existing bookings. although we will try to make it work, at times, it is simply not possible to extend your horse riding experience in such cases where you are at fault.

Reminder emails

We send out “reminder emails” 48 hours before your scheduled visit. please read these emails as they contain important information in preparation for your ride.
