Territory Business Event with Melbourne Football Club

When a group of key sponsors from the Melbourne Football Club flew into the Top End, they weren’t expecting the usual corporate dinner. With the help of Tourism NT and a carefully curated team of local operators, the group arrived at Katherine Outback Experience and stepped straight into something unforgettable.

Katherine Outback Experience created a memorable event for Melbourne Football Club

Who it was for

This experience was designed for major sponsors and partners of the Melbourne Football Club — a high-profile group visiting the Northern Territory as part of a relationship-building and appreciation event.

Why it was created

The vision was to create a truly Territory-style experience — something that could only happen here, and something that spoke to the land, the culture, and the character of the people who live and work on it. The event needed to be equal parts memorable and meaningful, giving guests a genuine connection to country.

Manuel entertained the guests with an incredible cultural experience

What was created

As the bus pulled into Katherine Outback Experience, the group was greeted not by a sign or a drink — but by a helicopter sweeping in low, mimicking a live cattle muster. Cattle moved across the paddock as guests arrived, setting the tone for what was to come.

The dramatic reenactment of a muster as the guests arrived

The evening unfolded in carefully timed moments:

  • A full Outback Show by Katherine Outback Experience, incorporating working dogs, horsemanship, and team-building insights — using animal behaviour as a metaphor for leadership, communication, and teamwork.
  • Top Didj’s Manuel Pamkal shared stories of his culture and personal history, then built a campfire and introduced guests to baby wallabies, clapsticks, and the didgeridoo in an intimate cultural experience.
  • A pop-up art gallery by Top Didj allowed guests to engage directly with the art and artists.
  • Dragonfly Catering delivered a carefully considered menu showcasing Territory flavours.
  • Tourism NT supported the event’s logistics and helped bring together the charter flight and itinerary coordination.

Who we worked with

This was one of the first times Katherine Outback Experience brought a full team of operators together on our property to deliver a complete evening event. Collaborators included:

What made it special

The event wasn’t just about putting on a show — it was about weaving together multiple layers of Territory identity. From the movement of cattle to the sound of the didgeridoo, from live storytelling to carefully plated bush foods — it gave guests a powerful and personal encounter with the Top End.

This was also a first for Katherine Outback Experiencehosting this kind of collaborative, multi-operator event on our own ground. It showed what’s possible when everyone brings their strengths and local knowledge to the table.

The result

The event was spotlighted by Tourism NT as a standout example of regional business event delivery. It left a lasting impression on the club’s sponsors and opened new doors for working together on future showcase experiences.

What it’s led to

This experience became a blueprint for what’s possible when combining performance, culture, storytelling and local talent in a single setting. It helped Katherine Outback Experience strengthen ties with NT operators and Tourism NT, and gave us the confidence to continue developing more layered, place-based events that stay with guests long after they leave.
