Speak Up by Tom Curtain featuring Sara Storer

Available from 18 June 2018

Amy “Dolly” Everett was the victim of bullying and ended her young life at just 14 years of age. ‘Speak Up’ was inspired by a drawing by Dolly that included the words “Speak even if your voice shakes”.

Tom, also from Katherine NT, wanted to raise awareness about bullying. He wrote the song with Garth Porter, who donated his time and studio to record the track in Sydney with the beautiful and renowned Country Music Artist Sara Storer. Ted Howard, the Sound Engineer also donated his time and expertise to the cause.

Tom organised two schools in Western Australia (where he was touring at the time) to be involved in the filming and audio recording of the track; Pinjarra Primary School and Pinjarra Senior High School. The Pinjarra Primary School Choir can be heard in the recording of the Speak Up chorus.

The Dolly’s Dream Charity has been established by her family and friends in her memory. Dolly’s Dream will work to create positive change, help prevent the lives of other children being lost, and act as a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

All proceeds from the sale of ‘Speak Up’ will go directly to Dolly’s Dream.

The CD includes the audio recording and video clip of Speak Up.

Loved the song and the video clip. If one young life is saved you have performed a miracle! Looking forward to seeing Tom sing this Saturday. Sara I loved your music since young Kira from Wave Hill introduced your music to me. You are much loved out there.

As a teacher at Pinjarra Primary School I am full of pride that our school was given the opportunity to participate in the filming of the video clip. I teach Year 1 students and the topic of bullying is a regular discussion in our class: Not because they are being a bully but because they have either been subjected to what they feel is bullying or they have witnessed bullying. Thanks to this song it has given us the platform to empower our students to be brave and to speak up, to know it’s scary to speak up but to also know that someone will be there to listen. To hear the students asking to listen to this song is reassurance that these words are meaningful. Thank you x
